This webpage has links to workbooks related to the CPM tables, CIP2014, CPM-B and MI-2017, as well as an older project that was never published.
- A workbook to construct MI-2017 or variants of it. This workbook is also available on the CIA website.
- A workbook allowing an interactive graphical comparison between the two improvement scales. There is a scroll bar to allow the comparison age to be varied.
- A workbook on replacing CPM-B with MI-2017 in mortality tables CPM2014 and CIP2014. The technique is to make a static projection backward on CPM-B to 2004 and 2005, respectively, and then forward on MI-2017 to 2014. This may be considered helpful because CPM-B was used in the construction of the tables. It is not required to make this adjustments to the published table, but some actuaries believe it is desirable to do so. The workbook also includes tables showing that the impact of the adjustment on life annuities is small except for ages over 80.
- A document describing a modification of CPM and CIP tables. The technique is to develop the tables from first principles with essentially the same method as was used for CPM2014 and CIP2014. The base year chosen is the central year of the underlying experience. In retrospect, I have realized that it is better to have the base year a central year of the experience than the year of publication.
- A workbook with the modified tables described in the above document.
- CIP2009 - Rates and paper describing its construction. This project was not published by the CIA. I posted it at the request of a reviewer who thought it useful. CIP2014 eventually superseded this project. See CIP2014 in CIA publications 215006 and 215006T.
- Fitting curves to mortality data. This brief note describes two possible models for mortality and how to calculate the parameters for them using least squares regression. The results are compared to GAC2012. This note was referred to in a presentation at the AA Seminar Sep.2019.
- Update to MI2017. What would happen if we applied the same method as was used with MI2017 to the data now available? This paper shows the impact and also looks into the differences between OAS and HMD data. The associated workbook has the numbers behind the charts in the document and some additional charts.
- Mortality experience for base term plans compared to riders. A supplement to the CIA individual life mortality study for 2018-2019.
- Files related to constructing CIA2014. Workbook used in construction and files needed to use it.
